OK, you've heard all the good things that people have to say about affiliate marketing – you do not need to carry any inventory or collect any money page, and blah, blah, blah. But let's look at 3 things you need to avoid when you're looking for a product to promote. Because there are some questionable products out there and you're in this business to MAKE money, not to lose it.
Each sale paid direct to your account –
While not all of these type of affiliate programs are questionable, avoid them unless you're absolutely positive you'll be paid. Typically, advertisers who run with these types of promotions do not want to take the time to get approved by a reputable affiliate network – or they are not able to get approved (which is questionable in itself). And if they do not want to take time and the necessary steps to do THAT, they may decide at some point that they do not have enough time to pay you.
Poorly written sales page –
As an affiliate marketer it's your job to get your readers to click the link that takes them
to the advertiser's sales page. Then it's the ADVERTISER'S job to sell. Which means he needs a good sales page. No matter what you read, it's not easy to write a sales page that converts. Obviously you want to look for poor grammar and spelling, but also look at the message itself. There's a science to copywriting and not everyone can do it. If the advertiser is serious about selling his product he'll either write a compelling sales page himself or he'll pay someone to do it for him. If you're not sold when you look at the sales page, your reader will not be either and you will not see a single sale.
There are dozens – literally dozens! – of ebooks on the market that tell you how to make money using Twitter, Facebook, or AdSense. And they all say the same thing. There are only so many things you can do to make money Tweeting! Especially since you only get 140 characters to work with. Stay away from these – the market is planned. Look for unique products and look to see how much competition you'll have – not just for that particular product but for similar products as well.
Do not forget to watch out for these 3 things to avoid.
